After a rigorous application and selection process, the five 2018-19 Bear Den presidents are planning a year full of spirit
Last May, five spirited seniors were elected Bear Den Co-Presidents based on their excited attitudes and energetic mindsets. Logan Hiller, CJ Karsatos, Maddi Mardas, Elizabeth McKenna and Thomas Thitoff are all equally enthusiastic about what this next school year has in store.
“I just really want to make this a great year for everyone, not just myself. I really want everyone to feel like they’re a part of this club and this community and have as much fun as possible at every game,” Mardas said.
More than just having fun at every sporting event, McKenna added that the team has plans to make and sell more apparel than they have in past years.
“I’m really excited for all of the t-shirt ideas we have so far … [we] really want to have a bunch of t-shirts to sell and give away at games, so I’m pumped to see everyone wearing them,” McKenna said.
When asked about other plans for the year, the presidents kept stunt ideas confidential.
“We have some fun ideas in mind… but I don’t want to give too much away so you’ll have to come to the games to see,” Mardas said.
Karsatos agreed and said that the best is yet to come.
“Let’s just say this will be the best football season in the 4 years I have been at UAHS,” he said.
The presidents are also looking to bring fans and student sections to games that usually don’t attract big crowds.
“I really want to get a lot of people to come to … girls games and more sports that are less popular,” Mardas said, “We can get a big crowd to all kinds of sports, not just football, basketball and lacrosse.”
Usually, at the last home game of every season, seniors celebrate their four years by playing a sentimental last game at the Marv. “[My biggest goal is] to ensure that each sports’ senior night has an awesome student section that the athletes [would] remember for the rest of their lives,” Karsatos said.
The atmosphere of playing in a packed stadium or loud gym is rewarding. Each of the five presidents recognizes this and hopes for big turnouts.
“It’s super important to come out and support your fellow classmates. I can tell you from experience that it’s awesome to play in that kind of atmosphere,” Mardas said.
The presidents said what they would like to convey to every student interested in making an appearance at sporting events. “It’d be great if people could … make it out to games and go all out … it will make everyone’s high school experience more memorable,” Mardas said.
Thitoff encouraged students to come out and support the bears. “This is gonna be a great year for all sports,” he said.
Karsatos encouraged every student to get involved.
“It will be fun to see how far they can go but they won’t be able to do it without am awesome student body behind them,” he said.
